This popular "skating" fly was introducted in 1985 by Lani Waller of Novato California, while he was working on a series of instructional video tapes for 3M/Scientific Anglers. The Wakers enjoyed a tremendous responce from steelhead, and steelhead anglers alike. According to Waller, summer run fish like skated or waking flies, but he added it is better to move the fly too slowly than too fast. Pro tied on up-eye salmon hooks.
