The Dog Nobbler is a famous British fly designed by the late Trevor Housby, the original fly was used to catch the large trout that had grown wise to the offerings of the local fly fishermen, 'dogs' and he worked on a pattern designed to catch them. When he finally produced one that consistently worked he called it the 'Dog Nobbler'. The deadly jig type action was the killer. No one knows whether he was aware of all the different Woolly bugger patterns available in North America at that time or not.
