Caddis fly larva, fall into two groups. The "case-building caddis", and the "free living". The former lives in a protective case constructed of sand, leaves or sticks. Some case builders attach themselves to rocks or logs, but both kinds from time to time let themselves drift freely in the current. The most prevalent drift times are before sunrize and after dark.
